Team Marzan Women Lead Strong Showing at IBJJF American Nationals in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Team Marzan returned home from the IBJJF American National Championship with eight podium finishes, highlighted by a standout performance from the academy's women's team, who continued to prove they belong among the nation's top competitors.

Leading the way was Ana Calixto, who captured the American National title with an impressive submission victory, finishing her championship match with a bow and arrow choke. The decisive finish capped off a dominant tournament and earned Calixto the top spot on the podium.

Katrina Tenedora also put together an outstanding run through her division, earning a silver medal after securing one of her victories by cross collar choke. Her technical performance throughout the tournament showcased the composure and pressure-based game she has continued to develop on the competition mats.

In the No-Gi division, Sierra Durrett added another national podium to her growing resume by finishing third. As one of the academy's youngest and most active competitors, Durrett continues to gain valuable experience against some of the toughest opponents in the country while representing Team Marzan at the highest level.

The women were far from the only Marzan athletes to find success in Las Vegas.

Ahmed Ghoneim claimed an American National championship of his own, finishing his final match with a clean kimura submission. Colin Savage also earned gold after an impressive tournament run, giving Team Marzan three national champions on the weekend.

Additional podium finishes came from Doug Nowotenski, who earned second place, while Professor Anthony Marzan and Fernando Garcia each battled through deep brackets to secure third-place finishes.

With eight athletes reaching the podium—including three American National champions—the weekend served as another strong showing for the academy's competition program. While medals are always worth celebrating, the performances reflected the countless hours spent preparing on the mats in Shingle Springs.

As the competition season continues, Team Marzan will look to carry that momentum into the next round of IBJJF events, building on another successful chapter in the academy's growing tournament legacy.
